60s Brit Pop Girls
Saturday 24th March 2018
Doors open 7.00 for 7.30pm, £14.00
The show presents a celebration of the songs, and the stories, of the big four British female pop stars of the swinging sixties. Supported by a brilliant live band, Helen Abbey sings the hits of Cilla Black, Dusty Springfield, Lulu, and Sandie Shaw. Featuring classic hits like, Anyone Who Had A Heart, I Only Want To Be With You, Always Something There To Remind Me, and To Sir With Love.
Helen Abbey has three CDs under her belt. Her career has led to international collaborations and tours, and numerous sessions for BBC radio. Her music is loved and played worldwide: from Brazil to Denmark, Japan to the Philippines.
The band comprises some of the finest musicians in the region:
Matt Keane, keyboards and Alex Best, drums (both from the Nat King Cole Show and both from Ipswich!), with Trevor Durrant, guitars and Charles Rickards on bass.
The show has the audience singing along and dancing in the aisles to some of the best loved songs of the sixties!
"Helen Abbey is one of East Anglia's best singers, not just in the field of jazz but in many other genres too. ..... This is Helen Abbey at her very best. She has never sounded better and has found herself a cracking band.”
Stephen Foster, BBC Radio Suffolk
"Superb show with Helen's wonderful vocal interpretations of Sandy, Cilla, Lulu and especially Dusty, plus marvellous instrumental backings and a special feature from the band. To say the audience were ecstatic would be an understatement!"
Chris Strachan, The Electric Palace, Harwich.
