United for Ukraine

The MAD-Aid "United for Ukraine" Appeal Event - 12th March 2022

HUNDREDS more funds have been raised in the fight to help Ukraine, as the Empire Theatre has played its part in the ongoing support.

The Empire Theatre raised £850.00 for the Ukraine appeal, through its showing of ENCANTO on March 12th.

The popular Disney film was the chosen showing where all funds were donated directly to the MAD-Aid Charity who are providing support for the refugees from the conflict.

MAD-Aid have one small team in the UK who step forward to help with various tasks and events. On the ground in Moldova, the charity supports a team of 16 who deliver the aid brought in from the UK throughout the country and work and play daily with the children in Phoenix Centre.

The Theatre are working in partnership with the CWU at Royal Mail, who already support the charity MAD-Aid, in helping some of the 100,000 Ukrainians who have taken refuge in Moldova.

At the CWU Royal Mail, they are collecting vital supplies to take to Moldova, they have been providing support for some considerable time, and have the knowledge and experience to deliver these to the areas where they are most needed. The money raised will either go direct to Moldova, or it will be used to buy and supply some of the important items required, like bedding, towels, duvets and blankets (see list below).

Chairman of the Empire Theatre Trust Mike George said: “We would like to thank everyone who came to the Theatre on the 12th and also thank the two people who donated larger sums to the cause. The Theatre intends to continue its support for the MAD-Aid charity with the new partnership with the CWU Union at the Royal Mail, and we hope to have further fundraising events in the future for this very worthy cause.”

This is a message from Clare Wilkes - Branch Secretary of the CWU (Communications Union) at Royal Mail Halstead, who are our partners in this appeal UNITED for UKRAINE.

"I would like to thank everyone for attending and supporting this event, and hopefully raise funds for the Ukrainian Refugees, and help them through these difficult times. We are collecting goods as well as money to help poor families. The funding will go to MAD-Aid which the founder, Victoria Dunford, will ensure these people are looked after. MAD-Aid has also opened its doors to the Phoenix Centre in Moldova to welcome families there.
The Centre was originally opened for disabled children. Moldova is the poorest country in Europe and for these people to welcome others when they have so little themselves is amazing. So thank you, your entry fee will go towards the cause and there are collection boxes on your exit if you wish to donate more. So I wish to thank you all again for helping us with this fantastic cause. I hope that you all enjoyed the film."

A group from the Earls Colne Brownies attended the Event, and we would like to thank Karen for organising their participation, pictured below are a few of them after the film on the Empire steps, we hope you all enjoyed your visit.
